Good Samaritans Rescue Man from Burning Car on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard

Clearwater Fire & Rescue and Clearwater Police responded this afternoon to a vehicle fire in the 1700 block of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, where citizens helped save a man trapped inside a burning car.

The call came in at 2:34 p.m. regarding a black Porsche on fire in the right eastbound lane. Before emergency crews arrived, two bystanders pulled the 74-year-old Clearwater man from the vehicle as others used fire extinguishers in an effort to control the flames.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire upon arrival and treated the driver at the scene. He was transported to Morton Plant Hospital for further evaluation as a precaution.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
