Gulfport Police Investigating Apparent Drowning of an 88 Year-old Woman
Shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017, officers were dispatched to the Gulfport Beach, 5500 block of Shore Blvd S, in reference to an unresponsive person at the edge of the water.

Medics arrived on scene and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased was 88 year old Sofia Zarzev who resides in Gulfport.

According to investigators, the preliminary cause shows a likely drowning. No foul play is suspected and it is unknown at this time if any medical condition contributed to her drowning.
