Hazardous Materials Response Team at US Post Office in Largo
Largo Fire Rescue and Largo Police Department were called to the US Post office in Largo for a Hazardous Material investigation. The call for service came in just prior to 3:30 pm this afternoon. The post office is located at 50 8th Avenue SW in Largo.
Workers were evacuated from the facility until the Pinellas County Hazardous Materials Response Team could respond in order to investigate the incident. Individuals that were possibly exposed were evaluated by a medical team.
The affected area of the facility was decontaminated and testing of the suspicious substance is currently being conducted.
Westbound lanes of 8th Avenue were closed for a period of time but all lanes are currently open.
Largo Police Department will continue investigating the incident.
