The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide at Plantation Park off Parkcrest Drive in Tampa.
On March 4, 2025, at 7:24 p.m., HCSO’s 911 Dispatch Center received a call about shots being fired at the park. Deputies arrived and found two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to the hospital. One adult male, Brian Jones, 19, succumbed to his injuries. The second victim is in stable condition.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned a fight broke out during a basketball game, which led to the shooting.
“A basketball game should never lead to a senseless act of violence such as this,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our detectives are doing everything they can to find out who is responsible for this heinous crime.”
