Pasco County/Lutz- A head-on collision on State Road 54 early Monday morning resulted in the death of a 42-year-old Palm Harbor man and left a 19-year-old woman with serious injuries.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash occurred at approximately 7:55 a.m. west of Heron Cove Drive. The woman was driving an Infiniti G37 westbound on SR-54 when she failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to enter the grass median and overturn. Upon exiting the median, the Infiniti collided head-on with an eastbound Tesla Model 3.
Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound travel lanes, with the Infiniti catching fire after impact. Emergency responders transported both drivers to area hospitals, where the Tesla driver later died from his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, the roadway was reopened by 3:30 p.m.
