Hit-and-Run Crash on Gandy Bridge Leaves Motorcyclist Seriously Injured

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers continue investigating an early morning crash on Sunday, July 16, 2023.

The hit-and-run crash occurred on the Gandy Bridge, leaving a young motorcyclist with serious injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 2:54 a.m. when a Tesla Model 3, traveling westbound at high speed, collided with a Suzuki GSXR-750 motorcycle.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Tesla Model 3 overtook the motorcycle before the collision occurred. The impact of the crash caused the motorcyclist to overturn, resulting in severe injuries. The driver of the Tesla fled the scene immediately after the incident, leaving the injured rider behind.

Troopers responded to the scene and found crucial vehicle parts that directly linked the hit-and-run incident to the suspect’s vehicle. Investigators began their search for the Tesla Model 3, aiming to identify the responsible party.

The Tesla was eventually located at an apartment complex in Largo, belonging to a female owner. Law enforcement seized the vehicle as evidence in the hit-and-run crash investigation. Authorities are conducting a thorough examination of the Tesla to gather additional evidence.

The injured helmeted motorcyclist, a 20-year-old male from Tampa, was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention. He sustained serious injuries in the crash.

To assist in apprehending the driver of the Tesla Model 3, the FHP has called on the public for assistance. Individuals with information about the driver’s identity or the incident are strongly encouraged to contact the FHP at *FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.
