Firefighters were dispatched to reports of a structure fire at approximately 3:11 a.m. on Saturday, December, 14, 2019.
Callers reported smoke and flames in the area of the Bardmoor golf course. Firefighters were able to locate the blaze at a home at 7830 Oliver Road.
Crews immediately went into a defensive mode as the home was already fully engulfed in flames involving a roof collapse A neighbor told firefighters that a couple and their children moved out of the home the day prior.
Firefighters were able to locate and rescue a cat in the pool area of the home.
The homeowner was contacted and responded to the scene of the structure fire. He reported the home was being rented to a family who began to move from the home on Friday.
Contact was made with the renters who reported there were three cats in the home. The second cat was located at approximately 8 a.m. The cat’s owners were taking them a veterinarian’s office for a medical evaluation. The third cat is still not accounted for.
The City of Seminole Fire Rescue was assisted by Pinellas Park Fire Rescue, Lealman Special Control Fire District, Sunstart Paramedics, Duke Energy and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation but at this time it is not being called suspicious, according to Fire Chief Heather Burford.
