Investigation continues following a boat collision near the Howard Frankland Bridge

On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at approximately 4:15 am, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) responded to a boating incident report near the Howard Frankland Bridge. The FWC, Tampa Police Department, and US Coast Guard all responded to the scene of a single vessel incident.

Preliminary information indicates that a 20-foot vessel with two occupants collided with a barge, and an occupant fell into the water.

One occupant was transferred to the hospital to be treated for their injuries, and the body of the other occupant was recovered as a result of the incident.

All members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission would like to express our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the victim. This is an active investigation and the FWC will be the lead agency for the ongoing investigation.
