Jury delivers guilty verdict in case of 2020 fatal St. Petersburg hit-and-run crash

On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, Keshawn Long was found guilty of Leaving the scene of a crash involving death, Driving while license suspended or revoked, and Reckless driving with serious bodily injury

The crash occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 10:14 a.m. Police responded to a hit-and-run crash between a stolen Mercedes and a Malibu at 9th Avenue South and 40th Street South.

Long, the driver of the stolen car fled the scene.

The female driver of the Chevy Malibu was seriously injured, and her passenger, 27-year-old Saniya Daxon, died later at the hospital.

Thanks to tips from the public, 19-year-old Keshawn Long was arrested on five charges for the hit-and-run crash that killed Saniya Daxon and injured another.

At the time of his arrest, Long was already in jail on auto theft charges unrelated to this crash.

Daxon left behind her 2-year-old son, who family members are raising. Sentencing is scheduled for Friday, May 12, 2023.
