Largo Man Crashes Vehicle Into Tree, Flees Scene with Toddler and Firearm

Largo Police were dispatched to reports of a single-vehicle crash at approximately 2:12 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

The crash occurred at 1800 Keene Road just south of the entrance to Eagle Lake Park.

37-year-old Michael Marra of Largo lost control of his vehicle, leaving the roadway and crashing into a tree. According to court records, Marra initially fled from the scene with a toddler and a firearm. Upon returning to the scene, officers observed a “strong and putrid” odor on his breath. He was unsteady on his feet, would walk slowly and stumble. He needed to be assisted by both police and fire personnel so he would not fall over. He was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital with a shoulder injury. The toddler was not reported injured in the crash.

He admitted to “losing control” and crashing his vehicle. Numerous open bottles of liquor were scattered around the vehicle. He refused to submit to a blood sample.

At the hospital, while in custody, Marra began to attack an employee and kicked an expensive patient monitoring device, which fell and was destroyed. That device reportedly cost approximately $10,000.

While in custody and restrained with two pairs of handcuffs with each wrist attached to the side of the hospital bed, he grabbed an employee’s wrist and twisted it violently. The employee was attempting to give him medication at the time. The victim required treatment for their injury.
