Largo, FL – On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at approximately 9:06 p.m., the Largo Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit responded to a hit-and-run accident that resulted in a fatality. The incident occurred at 2650 Roosevelt Blvd., just east of US Highway 19.
A pedestrian was crossing Roosevelt Blvd when they were struck by an unknown vehicle, which fled the scene immediately after the collision. Shortly after the initial crash, a second vehicle, a 2007 tan Toyota Highlander, traveling westbound on Roosevelt Blvd, also struck the pedestrian, who remained in the roadway. The driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. No signs of impairment were observed in the driver.
The road was closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene.
The pedestrian has been identified as 56-year-old James Michael Lescord.
Lescord was crossing the road on Roosevelt Blvd not in a cross walk, when an unknown dark-colored SUV struck Lescord and left the area. According to investigators, the vehicle involved is believed to be either a dark-colored Ford SUV or Mercury SUV.
