Largo pool company owner arrested for alleged scam targeting customers

Detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit in Pinellas County have arrested the owner of Platinum Pools and Spas LLC. This comes after numerous complaints were filed by customers who claimed to have been scammed out of large sums of money.

The investigation was initiated on December 9, 2022, when a victim reported that they had hired Platinum Pools and Spas LLC to do extensive remodeling work on their in-ground pool. To begin the project, the victim paid a down payment of $40,668.00 to the owner, David Greiner, who promptly deposited the money into his bank account. However, Greiner failed to show up at the residence to start the work. After waiting for seven months without any progress or communication from Greiner, the customer requested a refund, but Greiner never returned the deposit.

As the investigation unfolded, detectives received an additional eight complaints related to Platinum Pools and Spas LLC and Greiner. The cumulative monetary loss reported by the victims amounted to approximately $311,329.00.

On June 15, 2023, detectives interviewed Greiner about the allegations made against him. Despite the mounting evidence, Greiner refused to take responsibility or acknowledge wrongdoing. Instead, he blamed the victims, accusing them of being “difficult and conspiring against him.”

Consequently, Greiner was arrested and now faces six counts of grand theft and three counts of moneys received by contractors. He has been booked into the Pinellas County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.

The address for Platinum Pools and Spas LLC is listed as 2300 Tall Pines Drive in Largo, Florida
