The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continues to investigate a crash that left 30 year-old Michelle Lavecchia of Largo critically injured.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:36 p.m. on February 27, 2019 in the eastbound lanes of I-4 at milemarker 33 in Polk County.
According to troopers, Lavecchia was traveling eastbound on I-4 in a 2008 Toyota Corolla near in the center lane. A second vehicle, a 2018 Toyota Prius operated by 76 year-old Carole Harris of Lakeland was traveling eastbound in the outside lane.
Troopers say that Lavecchia lost control of her vehicle while changing lanes. Her vehicle rotated and collided with Harris’ Prius. Lavecchia was critically injured when her car entered the shoulder and collided with a light pole and guardrail.
Troopers do not believe that alcohol played any role in this crash and reported that all occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Neither Harris nor her passenger were injured in the crash.
Lavecchia remains at Lakeland Regional Hospital.
