MAIT Investigates Vehicle Crash Involving a Slingshot in Oldsmar

OLDSMAR — Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a vehicle versus Slingshot crash that occurred Friday evening in Oldsmar.

According to investigators, the crash occurred on January 2, 2026, at approximately 6:38 p.m. A 2021 Slingshot S three-wheeled motorcycle, operated by 56-year-old Rodolfo Ballester Sanchez of Oldsmar, was stopped at the intersection of East Lake Woodlands Parkway, preparing to turn east onto Tampa Road.

At the same time, 49-year-old Kevin Patrick Farrell of Oldsmar was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette northbound on East Lake Club Drive.

Investigators stated that Sanchez went around a stopped vehicle, entered the intersection of Tampa Road, and collided with Farrell’s vehicle, which had the right of way.

Sanchez was transported to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries. Farrell was not injured and cooperated with deputies at the scene.

Investigators noted that impairment appears to be a factor in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
