Aaron James Bordelon, age 29, was arrested last night after he admitted to harming a 16-day old child that was under his care and supervision at the time.
He reportedly became agitated when the child woke him up so soon after a recent feeding. He described forcefully picking up the child and admitted “this is my fault.”
He noted that after the interaction, the child’s physical condition deteriorated, breathing slowed and bruising under the eyes and on the eyelids was already visible. He did not call for immediate medical attention at that time.
Once the victim’s mother arrived at their location, Bordelon transported the child to Brandon Regional Hospital using the Lyft ride share service.
He attempted to conceal the bruising with makeup but the mother tried to remove it before arriving in the emergency room.
Doctors determined the child suffered from skull fractures and severe traumatic brain injury and was listed in critical condition.
The child passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.
He is facing charges of First Degree Murder with Great Bodily Harm or Death of a Child.
“Abuse in any form is unacceptable and this case is especially tragic and emotionally difficult for our detectives as it involves an innocent and defenseless child” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. ” There is help available for parents who may feel overwhelmed, by calling 211 for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.”
