The search for Roelofs began immediately after he failed to appear for a court date on his charges. Through a detailed investigation, officers determined he had fled the country. Using investigative means to track his movements, they determined he had gone to Colombia. On August 11, the U.S. Marshals Task Force provided crucial intelligence to Colombian authorities, pinpointing Roelofs’s location at the Finca Rivendell Paradise Girardota hotel in Antioquia, Colombia. Acting swiftly, Colombian officials responded to the area and took Roelofs into custody without incident.

On Tuesday evening, August 19, 2025, Colombian officials escorted Roelofs on a flight to Miami International Airport. There, he was met by officers from the Tampa Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit, who formally took custody of him before transporting him to Orient Road Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
