Man charged with attempted murder after shooting in a St. Petersburg home

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department responded to a reported shooting at approximately 1:55 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

This incident occurred at 653 64th Avenue South about a man who was shot inside the home. St. Petersburg Police say that this was not a burglary despite initial information to the contrary that was related to the arriving officers.

Investigators believe this was a domestic-related incident. The suspect lived at the home, and the victim was known to the suspect.

The victim was transported to Bayfront Health-St. Petersburg for the treatment of gunshot wounds.

Jacob Merrett, age 35, was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree.
