On Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at approximately 11:22 p.m., Tampa Police responded to what was originally reported as a vehicle crashing into the guardrail in the southbound lanes of Interstate 275 north of Busch Boulevard.
Officers arrived to find a 2015 blue Dodge with multiple bullet holes resting against the center concrete guardrail.
The driver, an adult male, was found suffering from a gunshot to the upper body. Tampa Fire Rescue transported the driver to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The southbound lanes of the interstate were closed at 11:31 p.m. to allow the scene to be processed, reopening at 6:30 AM.
It is very early in the investigation and detectives are working to develop leads to determine where the incident originated and what led to the shooting.
