Omar Lewis, age 24, of Sarasota, was arrested on charges of Reckless Driving on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at approximately 2:50 a.m.
According to the arrest affidavit, Trooper Gonzalez witnessed a Black BMW sedan traveling well above the speed limit southbound onto the Skyway Bridge near the North Rest Area in Pinellas County.
While crossing the bridge, the trooper passed the vehicle and determined its speed to be between 140-150 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone.
The vehicle changed lanes, maneuvering around other motorists, including a fuel tanker truck, without consideration for their safety.
Trooper Gonzalez and another trooper conducted a traffic stop on the south side of the bridge.
Lewis, accompanied by two adult passengers, claimed he was trying to get them home for work in the morning. Due to the dangerous driving and blatant disregard for others, he was arrested for reckless driving.
