Clearwater Police officers arrested a 60 year-old Dunedin man early this morning for DUI after he drove the wrong way on US-19.

Anthony Tucker was taken to the Pinellas County Jail after the incident, which occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019.

An officer noticed Tucker driving north in the southbound lanes of US-19 south of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard. At about the same time, Largo Police officers had issued a bulletin for a wrong-way driver headed north from their jurisdiction.

Multiple Clearwater officers converged on the highway in an effort to alert and stop other motorists and to try to stop the wrong-way vehicle. Tucker refused to pull over and continued northbound in the wrong lanes.

Stop sticks were deployed and his vehicle still kept heading north.

He eventually came to a stop near Countryside Boulevard when he was unable to get around a large flatbed tow truck.

Police say he smelled like alcohol, was swaying and stumbling and performed poorly on field sobriety tests.
