Man Lived with Mother’s Decomposing Body in St. Petersburg Home; Investigation Ongoing

On April 6, 2025, officers conducted a welfare check at 5438 2nd Avenue South after a landlord reported they had been unable to contact elderly tenant Susan King, 92, for several months.

At the residence, officers spoke with King’s adult son, Michael Moulton, 67. Moulton told police his mother was visiting a friend and would return in a day or two.

Officers returned on April 7 to follow up. After searching the home, they located King’s body in an advanced stage of decomposition.

A preliminary autopsy showed no signs of trauma or foul play.

Moulton was taken into custody on an outstanding 2013 warrant for failure to appear in court on a theft charge.

The investigation remains active, and additional charges are possible.
