Man On Motorcycle Critically Injured in St. Petersburg Alcohol Involved Crash
St. Petersburg Police continue to investigate an accident with serious bodily injuries.
The crash occurred on August 26, 2017 at about 12:41 a.m. at Central Avenue and 45th Street.
A black Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 22 year-old Cailynn Madsen, was driving northbound on 45th Street and had stopped for the stop sign at Central Avenue.
Investigators say a blue Yamaha FZ6 motorcycle, driven by a 25 year old man, was driving eastbound on Central Avenue in the median lane.
The Volkswagen began to make a left hand turn onto Central Avenue and drove into the path of the Yamaha.
The Yamaha crashed into the rear driver side of the Volkswagen. The man was thrown from his motorcycle by the impact and came to rest in the roadway.
He was transported from the scene to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life threatening injuries and is considered to be in critical condition.
Madsen was transported from the scene to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with minor injuries.
A passenger in the Volkswagen, 26 year-old Khristian Sweeney was treated at the scene and released.
Both drivers were found to have signs of impairment by alcohol. Criminal charges are pending the results of blood tests.
The motorcycle driver’s name hasn’t been released because police been able to locate next of kin at this time.
