Man removed from burning home in St. Petersburg, investigation underway

Crews from the St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

Responding firefighters were informed that smoke was coming from a house in the 2800 block of 16th Ave N. Units arrived to find a fire in the kitchen of a single-family home. The fire was quickly controlled.

During the search of the home for possible victims, crews found an adult male in critical condition and removed him from the structure. Paramedics immediately began treatment and transported the victim to the trauma center at Bayfront Health in critical condition.

The traumatic injury to the adult male did not seem consistent with the structure fire.

The fire investigator is responding to conduct an investigation.

There is currently no official cause for the fire pending the results of the investigation.
