Man Shot in an Armed Robbery this Morning in St. Petersburg
The St. Petersburg Police Department is currently working an attempted armed robbery that occurred at 5:17 a.m. at the intersection of 9th Avenue South and 20th Street.
According to investigators, a man in his late fifties was riding his bicycle at that intersection when he was approached by another man around 30 years of age, also riding a bicycle.
The younger man produced a handgun to rob the older man. The older man resisted and a struggle ensued. The older man was shot in the ankle and struck in the head multiple times. The suspect rode away from the area. The victim was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect is described as a black male, late 20’s to 30 years of age, 6 foot tall, slender build, and wearing a stocking cap and a track suit.
