Road rage incident in St. Petersburg leads to stabbing near school, one arrested

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at approximately 3:07 p.m., a man arrived on the campus of Sexton Elementary School, 1997 54th Ave. N., to pick up a child and seek assistance for stab wounds. 

An argument began between two men while they were both in their own vehicles next
to each other on 54th Avenue. N. while stopped at the light at 19th Street N.

Both men got out and began a physical altercation. During this fight, 34-year-old Jose Rafael Rabel Oneill was armed with a knife and stabbed the 28-year-old male victim numerous times.

The victim sought aid at the school and crews from the St. Petersburg Fire Rescue Department upon their arrival at the scene. He is currently in serious but stable condition at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital.

Oneill fled the scene but later contacted police. Oneill is now facing Attempted First Degree Murder and has been booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

All students and teachers were safe, and there was no school lockdown.
