Manatee County student accused of threatening to blow up school

Manatee County Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested a student at Buffalo Creek Middle School st 7320 69th Street East in Palmetto, for making a threat to blow up the school.

The 13-year-old student is charged with False Report of a Bomb, a 2nd degree felony.

On Wednesday, school administrators learned about comments in a Snapchat group, regarding their school. A person using a fake name joined a chat with other students and said, “This is a warning tomorrow I will blow Buffalo Creek Middle School up.” The student also sent a photo of a handgun with three magazines to the chat.

Through investigative methods, the location of the message was tracked to a residence in the 11200 block of 82nd St. E., Parrish, and the suspect’s identity was narrowed down to an eighth grader at the school.

After receiving consent to search the home, deputies found no weapons or evidence that the student had access to or the ability to make explosives. A post-Miranda interview was conducted with the student, and he confessed to sending the messages.

The case is still under investigation.
