Manatee County Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested a Bayshore High School assistant football coach on a charge of soliciting sexual contact with a student.

On November 17, 2025, the parent of a 16-year-old student reported that Lagarius Spikes, 42, made sexually explicit comments to the student in his office at Bayshore High School and solicited sex. Spikes later sent explicit text messages to the victim.

Detectives gathered information from the victim and parent, including details of the conversations and phone messages from the past week. An audio-recorded conversation was part of the evidence reviewed by investigators. Detectives determined there was probable cause to charge Spikes with Soliciting Sexual Battery by an Authority Figure.

Spikes was taken into custody at his residence in Palmetto earlier today and booked into the Manatee County Jail.

The Manatee County School District, the Florida Department of Children and Families, and the Florida Abuse Hotline were notified.

Lagarius Spikes, 42, was arrested last night, November 19, 2025, on a charge of soliciting another juvenile for sex.

On November 19, detectives from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Crimes Against Children Unit became aware of a female student at Bayshore High School who had been approached by Spikes and solicited for sexual acts. The 15-year-old victim reported that Spikes, who was employed at the school as a coach and graduation enhancement technician, had made sexually explicit comments to her as early as August of this year. On November 12, the victim had a conversation with Spikes in his office, during which he expressed a desire to engage in sexual acts with her.

Based on the statements and evidence collected during the investigation, there is probable cause to charge Spikes with soliciting sexual battery by an authority figure involving a victim under the age of 18. He was arrested at his home just hours after being released on bond from the Manatee County Jail for the same criminal offense involving a 16-year-old victim. (See details of that case above)

Detectives continue to gather information regarding Spikes’ interactions with other students. The investigation is ongoing.
