Motorcyclist Dies in Crash on Tyrone Blvd Monday Night

St. Petersburg Police continue to investigate a crash involving a motorcyclist.   The crash occurred on Monday, March 20, 2017 at approximately 8:30 PM in the 3300 block of Tyrone Blvd in St. Petersburg.

21 year-old David Lee Jeffrey was operating a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle, traveling southeast on Tyrone Boulevard. According to investigators, Jeffrey was traveling at a high rate of speed.

A 2012 Nissan Altima, being driven by 61 year-old Jorge Luiz Carneiro was traveling northwest on Tyrone Boulevard and made a left turn onto 33rd Avenue North, in front of the motorcycle.

Investigators say that due to the high rate of speed, Jeffrey was unable to stop or avoid Carneiro and the front of the motorcycle struck the right rear of the Nissan.

As a result, Jeffrey was reportedly thrown from the motorcycle and landed over 90 feet away from the point of impact.

Jeffrey was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he was being treated for life-threatening injuries.
St. Petersburg Police released information Wednesday morning saying that Jeffrey was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m., March 21st, 2017 as a result of the injuries he suffered in this crash.

The investigation continues.
