Deputies assigned to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to a crash involving a 2019 Mazda 3 and a 2012 Ducati motorcycle.
The crash occurred at 7:54 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in the northbound lanes of Seminole Boulevard at 72nd Avenue.
According to investigators, 37-year-old Timothy Sterbens was driving a Ducati motorcycle northbound on Seminole Boulevard, just south of Park Boulevard, at high speed.
A Mazda 3, driven by a 56-year-old woman, was exiting the shopping plaza on the east side of Seminole Boulevard and 72nd Avenue North. Investigators say she began to cross the northbound lanes of Seminole Boulevard from east to west; she was struck by Sterbens, who crossed the shopping plaza exit.
An arriving deputy began rendering aid to Sterbens, administering CPR until the arrival of medics from the City of Seminole Fire Rescue. He was transported to HCA Florida Largo Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
According to investigators, speed appears to be a factor in the crash.
The investigation continues.
