Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on US-41, Driver Arrested for DUI Manslaughter

A fatal crash occurred on US-41 near the intersection of Lake Floyd Drive on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at approximately 6:30 p.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 72-year-old Lutz man driving a Ford Escape turned left into the path of an oncoming Suzuki motorcycle, resulting in a collision.

The motorcyclist, a 26-year-old Largo man, was critically injured and transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Troopers identified the driver of the Ford Escape as William Edward Ricks. Following the crash, Ricks was determined to be impaired and was arrested for DUI Manslaughter.

The investigation remains ongoing.
