Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate a crash that led to the death of a motorcyclist this morning in Pasco County.
A crash occurred on SR-54 when a Suzuki motorcycle collided with a Ford Expedition at the intersection of SR-54 and the exit ramp from SR-589 at approximately 7:20 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
Investigators say that when the 32-year-old New Port Richey man driving the Suzuki motorcycle ran a red traffic signal while traveling eastbound on SR-54. Simultaneously, a 46-year-old Tampa man, driving a Ford Expedition northbound on the exit ramp, turned left under a green traffic signal. The two vehicles collided at the intersection.
Following the impact, the motorcycle was engulfed in flames. The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Expedition was not reported to have suffered any injuries.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
