Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash with Clearwater Police Department vehicle late Wednesday night

A crash occurred on Wednesday night at the intersection of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard and McMullen Booth Road, involving a police department vehicle.

The Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to the incident at 11:39 p.m. The police vehicle, an unmarked 2022 Ford Explorer, was making a left turn onto Gulf-to-Bay from southbound McMullen Booth Road when a westbound motorcycle traveling at high speed ran the red light, causing the collision.

The injured parties, an adult male motorcyclist and the police sergeant, were taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for medical attention. The motorcyclist sustained multiple broken bones, but his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, while the police sergeant suffered only minor injuries.

The intersection was closed for approximately four hours.
