Motorcyclist strikes deer on I-75 in Palmetto then involved two other vehicles including FHP cruiser

PALMETTO – The Florida Highway Patrol reports that on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, (after 9:00 pm, specific time remains under investigation) a motorcyclist (50-year-old male, from Sarasota, Florida) was traveling south on Interstate 75, at mile marker 232, in Manatee County and collided with a deer. The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle, and came to rest on the left paved shoulder. The motorcycle came to rest in the southbound travel lanes and the deer came to rest on the right shoulder.

A second vehicle, approaching the crash scene on southbound Interstate 75, collided with the downed motorcycle.  

A marked Florida Highway Patrol Vehicle, approaching the crash scene on southbound Interstate 75, entered the left paved shoulder and collided with the previously ejected motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased on scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
