Motorcyclist Struck and Killed by Lightning While Traveling on I-95 in Volusia County

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a motorcyclist in Volusia County.

According to investigators, 45 year-old Benjamin Lee from Charlotte, North Carolina, was traveling southbound on I-95 near milemarker 270 at approximately 2:12 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2019.

Lee was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle when struck by a bolt of lightning on the top of his helmet.  The man lost control, overturned, ejected and died at the scene.

The incident was witnessed by an off-duty out of state trooper.
