Murder suicide involving a elderly couple at assisted living facility in St. Petersburg

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department are investigating a murder-suicide.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

An employee at Addington Place, an assisted living facility located at 4600 54th Avenue South, was conducting their routine check-ins when they located 76-year-old Susan Dowler and her husband, 81-year-old Thomas Dowler, shot.

Both died at the scene.

Through the investigation, officers determined that Thomas, who was visiting, shot his wife, Susan, and then turned the gun on himself.

The investigation is still ongoing.
