Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a crash involving a Pinellas County School Bus.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
Investigators say that a 45 year-old male driver of a Nissan Frontier was traveling westbound on Belleair Road. At the same time, a Pinellas County School Bus transporting 23 students from Largo High School, was traveling eastbound on Belleair Road.
Just east of Bravo Drive, the Nissan came upon and entered the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass stopped traffic. Recognizing the immediate hazard, the 43 year-old male driver steered to the shoulder to avoid a head-on collision.
As a result, the left front of the Nissan collided with the left rear of the bus.
Neither the driver nor any of the students suffered injury. A bus monitor, a 44 year-old woman traveling in the bus suffered minor injuries.
The bus driver is credited with preventing a more severe crash by initiating immediate evasive maneuvers when faced with an impending collision.
