No Threat After Suspicious Package at Pinellas Park Wawa Investigated Early Sunday Morning

No Threat After Suspicious Package at Pinellas Park Wawa Investigated Early Sunday Morning

An empty cooler led to a lengthy suspicious package investigation at a Pinellas Park Wawa.

At about 5 am on Sunday, September 24, 2017, Pinellas Park Police Department responded to the Wawa located at 6200 34th Street N.

Their response was in reference to a suspicious package.  Upon arrival, officers observed what appeared to be a small closed cooler sitting next to the vapor lines that go to and from the gas tanks underground.

The Tampa PD Bomb Squad was notified and they and the Pinellas County Hazmat team responded to the scene as a precaution.

Employees from the Wawa were also temporally evacuated and the roads surrounding the business were temporally blocked again out of an abundance of precaution.

Tampa PD Bomb Squad personnel arrived on-scene just moments ago and were able to clear the package and discovered it was an empty cooler.

Wawa is back open as well as all the roads in the area.

Police say there is no reason to believe at this time that the cooler was left at this location with any intent of committing a crime.
