Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian crash that seriously injured a man in  Dunedin.

The crash occurred at about 11:33 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, on Belcher Road near the intersection of Winchester Drive and Belcher Road in Dunedin.

According to investigators, 53-year-old Benjamin Hofrichter of Palm Harbor was driving his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on Belcher Road, approaching the intersection of Winchester Drive and Belcher Road.

47-year-old Brian Anderson was jogging and investigators say that for an unknown reason, Anderson tried crossing Belcher Road from east to west, into the path of Hofrichter’s Grand Cherokee.

Hofrichter could not stop in time and his Grand Cherokee struck Anderson.

Paramedics transported Anderson via Bayflite to the hospital for serious injuries. Hofrichter was uninjured.

Investigators say Anderson was not utilizing a designated marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.

Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The investigation continues.
