On Monday, January 12, 2026, at approximately 9:57 p.m., a fatal crash occurred on southbound Interstate 275 along the Howard Frankland Bridge.
According to investigators from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 37-year-old man from Musella, Georgia, was traveling southbound when it entered an active construction zone near the 34-milepost. A Ford F-550, driven by a 45-year-old Tampa man, was stopped in the work zone as part of a construction operation being conducted by Archer Western–Traylor Brothers JV.
Investigators said the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado failed to yield to construction workers, entered the closed lane, and collided with the Ford F-550. Debris from the crash then struck a third vehicle, a Nissan Titan driven by an 18-year-old man from Largo, which was also traveling southbound on I-275.
The 37-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Silverado suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan Titan was not injured. The driver of the Ford F-550 and two additional construction workers riding in the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The roadway was reopened at approximately 2:30 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
