Palm Harbor crash leaves one dead, one seriously injured

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continues to investigate a fatal crash that occurred on US-19 north of Alderman Road at approximately 5:19 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

Troopers say that 55 year-old Melanie Cohen of New Port Richey was traveling northbound on US-19, north of Alderman Road in a 2006 Chevy HHR.

Adrenne Wygonik, age 74 of Oldsmar, was traveling southbound on US-19, north of Alderman Road in a 2018 Audi Q5.

For unknown reason, Cohen lost control of her HHR which crossed the center median and collided with the Audi.

Both vehicles rotated to final rest along the west shoulder of southbound US-19 and in the southbound travel lanes of US-19, following the collision.

Cohen suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. Wygonik was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital with that troopers called serious injuries.

Troopers do not believe that alcohol played a role in the crash. The preliminary report indicates that Cohen was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
