Palm Harbor Motorcyclist Killed In Pasco County Crash

A Palm Harbor motorcyclist was killed last night after a crash in Pasco County at about 9:15PM. The crash occurred on US Hwy 19 at Alt US Hwy 19 in Holiday
According to the press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, John W. Somogy, age 56, was traveling southbound on a 1976 Harley on US-19 in the outside lane approaching the intersection of Alt US-19. A Clearwater woman in a 2013 Hyundai was stopped in the outside lane of southbound US-19 at the intersection of Alt US Hwy 19 for a red traffic signal. As Somogy neared the intersection, he took evasive action to avoid the Hyundai by braking. Somogy was unsuccessful and he struck the back of the vehicle.
Somogy sustained fatal injuries and expired at the scene of the crash. FHP reports that Somogy was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and toxicological tests are pending.
