The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children detectives have arrested Jonathan Edward Elwing, a 43-year-old senior pastor of Palm View Baptist Church, on charges of possessing child pornography.
On June 20, 2024, detectives received information indicating that Elwing had used cryptocurrency to purchase child sexual abuse material online. The following day, a search warrant was executed at the church at 6803 34th Ave East, Palmetto, and Elwing’s home. During the search, detectives discovered four sexually explicit images of children on his cell phone. Based on this evidence, Elwing was charged with four counts of Possession of Child Pornography.
Elwing was taken into custody and booked at the Manatee County Jail. Before his arrest, he resigned as pastor of Palm View Baptist Church.
The investigation is ongoing.
