Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a crash that occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of I-275 south of the Roosevelt exit.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 51 year-old male from Seffner was traveling southbound on the entrance ramp of CR-296 leading to southbound I-275 when the wheels of the motorcycle collided with a groove in the pavement which caused the driver to lose control.
The motorcycle ultimately collided with with a traffic construction barrel. The impact caused both the driver and his 43 year-old female passenger from Seffner to be ejected off the motorcycle.
As the passenger fell from the motorcycle, she fell into the path of another motorcycle traveling behind them. The driver of that motorcycle, a 34 year-old male from Apollo Beach suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the motorcycle involved in the initial crash was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with non life-threatening injuries. The passenger remains hospitalized with critical injuries.
