Pedestrian killed crossing 18th Avenue South in St. Petersburg

A pedestrian was struck and killed on Monday, September 4th, in the 2400 block of 18th Avenue South.

It occurred just before 8:30 p.m. when a Dodge Ram was traveling westbound along this stretch of road. Unfortunately, a pedestrian, identified as 68-year-old James Higgs, was attempting to cross 18th Avenue South without a designated crosswalk.

The Dodge Ram was unable to come to a halt in time, resulting in a collision with Higgs. The crash’s impact left Mr. Higgs in a critical condition, necessitating immediate medical attention. He was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg

Higgs later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Ram remained at the scene, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic crash continues.
