At approximately 7:19 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, first responders were dispatched to a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle at the intersection of 22nd Avenue South and Grove Street South.
A black Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on 22nd Avenue South near 7th Street South.
A pedestrian, 59-year-old Opprittee Morris was crossing 22nd Avenue South from south to north when the crash occurred. Morris was not in a marked crosswalk.
Morris was transported to Bayfront Health where she was pronounced dead.
The involved driver stayed at the location and is actively cooperating with authorities.
A road closure was in effect on 22nd Avenue South, spanning from 7th to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr South until 9:10 a.m.
