Person riding an electric scooter struck and killed in hit and run crash

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department continue to investigate the death of an electric scooter operator. The crash occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2022 in the area of 35th Avenue N and 34th Street N.

Based on the ongoing investigation, the scooter was traveling northbound in the median lane on 34th Street North when he was struck.

The vehicle is believed to be a light blue in color Toyota Avalon. The vehicle does not have tinted windows and it appears to be an older body style with damage to the front driver side and the front windshield.

Following the collision between the sedan and the scooter, the sedan left the scene.

The victim died at the scene and next of kin has not been notified. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
