A Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputy sustained injuries during a traffic stop on US-19 in Palm Harbor on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
On November 20, 2024, at approximately 8:09 p.m., a traffic incident on US 19 near Tampa Road resulted in multiple vehicle collisions and the arrest of a driver suspected of driving under the influence.
According to investigators, Pinellas County Deputy Bonanno was driving a fully marked Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on US 19 when he attempted to stop a 2008 silver Dodge Ram. The driver, identified as 33-year-old David Lominack Jr., failed to pull over and continued northbound.
As Lominack approached stopped traffic near Nebraska Avenue, he abruptly slammed on his brakes, causing Deputy Bonanno to rear-end the Dodge Ram. The impact triggered a chain reaction, involving three additional vehicles in the crash.
After the collision, Lominack fled the scene northbound, abandoning his vehicle a short distance away. Deputies, assisted by the Flight Unit, located him hiding behind bushes near the vehicle and took him into custody near the Achieva Bank.
Lominack underwent a DUI evaluation, revealing a breath alcohol content of .199 and .206 BrAC, more than twice the legal limit.
Deputy Bonanno sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. Occupants of the other vehicles involved reported no injuries.
Lominack faces multiple charges, including:
• Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding
• Driving Under the Influence with Injury
• Driving Under the Influence with Property Damage (three counts)
• Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Injury
• Leaving the Scene of an Accident (three counts)
• Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle
• Possession of Marijuana
He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail. Investigators attribute speed and impairment as contributing factors to the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
He was identified as 33-year-old David Lominack. He was arrested and facing charges of Leaving the Scene of a Crash involving property damage, Aggravated fleeing and eluding, Possession of Marijuana, DUI involving injury, DUI involving property damage, Operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.
The injured deputy was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg with non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing and additional information is expected in the morning.
