PINELLAS COUNTY – This weekend, deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, along with multiple partner agencies, will conduct a DUI Wolf Pack operation targeting impaired drivers on Pinellas County roadways.
Participating agencies include:
- Florida Highway Patrol
- Largo Police Department
- Pinellas Park Police Department
- St. Petersburg Police Department
- Tarpon Springs Police Department
- Clearwater Police Department
The operation will run from 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025, through 5:00 a.m. Sunday, August 31, 2025. Law enforcement will maintain a strong presence on the county’s busiest thoroughfares.
The Wolf Pack’s mission is to reduce traffic-related deaths, injuries, and property damage caused by impaired driving, while educating motorists and raising awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, chemicals, or controlled substances.

This operation is dedicated to the memory of the McConnell family – Rory McConnell, Roy McConnell III, Nathan McConnell, and Kelly McConnell – who were killed by an impaired driver on August 1, 2010, in St. Petersburg.

On July 31, 2010, Roy McConnell took his three sons to a late-night movie at Bay Walk in downtown St. Petersburg to celebrate Kelly’s birthday. On their return to a beach rental at approximately 12:46 a.m., their vehicle was struck by an impaired driver traveling more than 80 mph who ran a red light. The crash forced their vehicle into a concrete light pole, killing all four instantly.

Impaired driving is a crime with no intended target. Any motorist could become its next victim. This weekend’s operation honors the McConnell family and continues the effort to prevent such tragedies.
