The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 10:53 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the intersection of U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) and Pearl Avenue in Palmetto, Florida.

A Ford F250 pickup truck, driven by a 29-year-old man from Palmetto, was stopped at the stop bar on eastbound Pearl Avenue for a red traffic signal. At the same time, a 64-year-old man from Pinellas Park was in a wheelchair, stationary at the northeast corner of the intersection.

As the pedestrian began to cross Pearl Avenue using the designated crosswalk, traveling from north to south, the driver of the Ford F250 initiated a right turn to travel north on U.S. 41. During the turn, the vehicle’s front-left tire struck the pedestrian’s wheelchair, causing the man to fall out. The tire then ran over the pedestrian.

The pedestrian came to a final rest west of the crosswalk, facing south. Following the collision, the vehicle came to a controlled stop in the outside northbound lane of U.S. 41.
