On Wednesday, August 28th, 2024, the Pinellas Park Police Department was alerted to potential sexual activity taking place within a vehicle at a local apartment complex within the City of Pinellas Park. Once on scene, officers located a 15-year-old female walking away from a car that had just left the area. The vehicle in question was the subject vehicle where the sexual activity was allegedly taking place.
Through the investigation, officers learned the victim was having intercourse with the male occupant, later identified as 36-year-old Demetrious Jones. Detectives identified Demetrious Jones and confirmed he was a campus monitor for Pinellas County Schools, working at Richard O. Jacobsen Technical High School in Seminole.
The victim currently attends the school, and the relationship between Demetrious Jones and the juvenile victim has been occurring for a period that is yet to be determined.
On August 29th, detectives interviewed Demetrious Jones, who admitted to contacting and being present with the victim but denied any sexual contact. Based on the facts learned throughout the investigation, Demetrious Jones was taken into custody and charged with Sexual Battery. He has been transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
Chief Geissenberger said, “I want to make it clear that the safety and well-being of our most vulnerable population is of utmost importance. The actions of this individual, who was entrusted with a position of responsibility within our school system, represent a profound violation of that trust. This crime not only harms the victim but also shakes the confidence of parents, students, and the community at large. We are committed to pursuing justice in this case, ensuring that those who abuse their power to exploit vulnerable individuals are held accountable under the law.”
If any other students may have been victims of any sexual contact or inappropriate relationship with Demetrius Jones, please get in touch with their local law enforcement agency.
This investigation is still active and ongoing.
